The TIES Project Launches Interactive Map that Locates Providers and Rapid HIV Tests

As part of its early intervention efforts, the Municipality of San Juan’s TIES Project launched an interactive digital map that displays the locations where entities funded by the initiative, known as subrecipients, will provide free testing to the general public. The map, which can be found under the “Where to Get Tested” option within the “HIV Testing” section, is updated monthly and is accompanied by a calendar detailing the scheduled dates and times for rapid testing at each entity.
This implementation, supported by the early intervention lead for TIES Project, Jesús Marrero Santiago, aligns with the rapid response strategy for detecting potential HIV outbreaks and preventing new cases, a strategy established by the federal “Ending the HIV Epidemic” (EHE) initiative. Furthermore, the TIES Project has provided an additional map showing the locations of the nine service providers, which can be found in the “Subrecipients” section.
The digital mapping tool will allow the public to stay informed about nearby opportunities for rapid HIV testing, a practice recommended as part of medical care for anyone who is sexually active. If a preliminary positive result is identified by one of the TIES Project's subrecipients, the individual is automatically enrolled in a program to receive antiretroviral treatment (ART) within seven days or less. If the result is negative, the individual may be considered for—and referred to—Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), a medication that helps prevent the risk of infection.
The interactive digital map is part of the annual work plan implemented by the TIES Project, in accordance with EHE requirements. Other services offered include health promoters, community outreach, communication efforts, and training for healthcare professionals.
